Drought Conscious Landscaping in Central Texas

Greater Austinites understand that temperatures across the nation have been HOT! We also know areas of central Texas are on the drought spectrum with water restrictions in place.

This does not mean the end of urban landscaping. In fact, it is an argument that it is vital – and not just the drought tolerant kind!

Areas that are paved, left as hard dirt, or rocked, add to daytime temperatures in urban areas.

Trees and other landscape plants help water quality and wildlife, while also lowering temperatures in those same areas. In addition, plants cool the atmosphere indirectly by sequestering carbon.

Improving and nurturing our landscapes is essential. For humans, for wildlife, and our planet!
